James Painter is a Chartered Legal Executive in our Recoveries division within the Insurance Litigation team. He advises insurer clients on vehicle damage recovery claims, helping to recover losses efficiently while delivering commercially focused outcomes.
Known for his straightforward and pragmatic approach, James works closely with clients to assess prospects, evaluate the commercial viability of claims and develop strategies that support successful recoveries. He understands the importance of balancing legal considerations with practical and economic factors, ensuring claims are progressed in the most effective way possible.

He handles a high volume of recovery matters, acting to recover losses arising from road traffic collisions and other motor-related incidents. In addition, James independently manages uninsured loss recovery claims for fleet clients, working to secure favourable outcomes while protecting client interests.
James’ expertise includes motor claims, insurance litigation and matters involving the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB). He regularly assesses liability, prospects of recovery and economic considerations, providing practical advice focused on achieving efficient resolutions.
Prior to joining Flint Bishop in 2022, James developed experience across a variety of legal and claims-handling roles, progressing from an administrative position to claims handling before qualifying as a Chartered Legal Executive. This journey has given him a well-rounded understanding of the claims process and the challenges faced by insurer clients.
A Fellow of CILEX, James works with a range of insurer and commercial clients, including major motor insurers and organisations operating substantial vehicle fleets. He takes pride in securing recoveries for clients and their insureds, successfully recovering significant sums each year through a proactive and commercially minded approach to claims management.
